De-escalation of CPI

Overview
In this face-to-face training, participants will learn how de-escalation in a preschool classroom using Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) principles requires adapting techniques to the developmental level of young children (ages 3–5). Preschoolers are still learning how to manage emotions, follow directions, and express themselves, so CPI strategies must be simple, visual, and grounded in patience and consistency.
Objective
4.2 Creates an environment that is predictable, promotes interaction and learning, and is responsive to the needs of all children
4.2 a. Plans, implements, and adapts a supportive learning environment that promotes children's safety, positive interactions, and behaviors.
4.3 Works to effectively promote social and emotional development and prevent challenging behaviors.
4.3 h. Provides children with time, space, trust, support, and guidance to assist them in finding their own solutions to social problems.
4.3 i. Supports children in communicating their thoughts and emotions with peers and adults in ways that help them feel competent.
4.3 k. Knows when to intervene to stop behavior that affects safety and /or ability to learn
4.3 l. Remains calm and respectful toward the child exhibiting challenging behavior
